Communication Arts, Film, and Digital Media
We empower students to develop a creative voice and take creative risks in a hands-on, project-based learning environment. We promote creativity, problem-solving, and leadership skills in a real-world setting. Many of our students take on additional responsibilities in their roles as editors, managers, and mentors. We serve our school through print media (newspaper, yearbook, literary magazine), broadcast, film, and communications technology. Our students compete at the local, state, and national level. We have participated in the Southern Interscholastic Press Association convention in Columbia, South Carolina. This year we attended the JEA/NSPA (National Scholastic Press Association) journalism convention in Chicago.
We've had THREE Silver Knights in Journalism: Marcus Parramore (2006) yearbook, Alexandra Martinez (2010) newspaper, and Sophia Torrents (2012) yearbook. Our students have gone to work as promoters for Paramount Pictures, graphic design firms, and have become freelancers/entrepreneurs.
