Attendance Policy
The Attendance Office is located at the main entrance of the school off of Bird Rd.

The best method for obtaining an excused absences admit is for the student to submit the necessary documentation to the attendance office. This documentation should be submitted to the old attendance office from 6:30 -7:10 AM.

Absences from School

Absences 1-10:
Students must bring a note within 72 hours of an absences (3 Days).

Reason for Excused Absences:
Illness of Self
Death in the Family
Immigration or Court Appearance
Medical Appointment/Hospitalization
School Sponsored Event
Outdoor Suspension
Approved Miami-Dade School Board Religious Holiday

Non-Excusable Absences
Illness of other
Providing day care services for sibling
Non-compliance with immunization requirements
Vacations, personal services, local non-school event, program or sporting event.

Absences 11 and beyond:
Once a student reaches 11 absences or more, official documentation must be provided by the student to the attendance office. Examples of official documentation include Doctor's notes and court documents.

Chronic truancy or deliberate nonattendance in excess of fifteen (15) school days within a ninety (90) calendar day period shall be sufficient grounds for withdrawal of students sixteen (16) years of age or older, who are subject to compulsory school attendance under F.S. 1003.21. Additionally, excessive unexcused absences will result in the school district notifying the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.

A student accumulating ten (10) or more class unexcused absences in an annual course or five (5) or more class unexcused absences in a designated semester course may have quarterly, semester and final grade(s) withheld pending an administrative screening and completion of assigned interventions by the Attendance Review Committee.

Unexcused absences do not require that the teacher provide make-up work for the student.

No student may be signed out of school unless a parent or legal guardian is present in the office to sign him/her out. The parent/legal guardian's name must appear on the emergency contact card or the school's data base. If the name of the individual trying to sign out the student does not appear on either school resource, the student will not be allowed to leave school grounds. A valid picture ID is required and the person must be 21yrs or older in order to sign a student out from school.

It is the parent/legal guardian's responsibility to ensure that the school has the most
up-to-date information on the emergency contact card.

A student must be present in school for a minimum of 2 hours. Sign outs prior to 9:15 AM will result in the student being marked absent for the school day.

No students can be dismissed from school after 1:50 PM.

Tardy Procedures

The school day begins at 7:15 AM. Any student arriving to school after 7:15 AM is tardy. From 7:15 til 7:30 AM, students should report directly to class. This is an unexcused tardy.

After 7:30 AM, students must report to the attendance office in the front of the school.

Excusable tardies include:
Documented Doctor's appointments
Court Appearance
Documented car accident

Only excused tardies will permit the student to obtain make-up work.
