Academy of Finance

The Academy of Finance at Coral Gables Senior High School is a magnet academy and member of the National Academy Foundation (NAF), a leader in the movement to prepare students for college and career success. NAF’s Academy of Finance connects high school students with the world of financial services, offering a curriculum that covers entrepreneurship, banking and credit, financial planning, international finance, securities, insurance, accounting, and economics, among other topics. The Academy of Finance curriculum and certification is validated by the Council for Economic Education.


 

Academy of Finance students will have completed at least four NAF courses and a summer internship by the time of their graduation. In 9th grade, all students are required to take Intro to Information Technology (IT) . For their following years, they select between two different tracks: Entrepreneurship or Finance.

NAFTrack Certification helps students: 

  •        Make the connection between their high school coursework and their futures
  •        Reflect on their own learning in order to set goals for continuous improvement
  •       Gain proficiency in taking online assessments, which are becoming more prevalent in higher education
  •       Demonstrate the hard and soft skills they develop throughout their academy experience
  •       Get on track to NAFTrack Certified Hiring, a commitment made by top companies to give special consideration to NAFTrack certified job applicants 


In addition to studying career-focused curriculum and working on collaborative projects, AOF students gain critical career knowledge through a series of work-based learning activities both inside and outside of the classroom. These activities include job shadowing, mock interviews, resumé writing workshops, culminating with a paid internship. With this credential, graduates can benefit from NAFTrack Certified Hiring, a commitment made by several of America’s top companies to give special consideration to qualified college students and eventual job applicants. AOF graduates benefit from learning the critical concepts of business management, accounting, and ethics.

Requirements

 

  • 2.0 average in core academics and a 2.0 in conduct (2.5 GPA is required to stay in the program)
  • No more than 10 unexcused absences or tardies for the previous academic year
